If a written guide isn’t your preferred format, click here to view this information in a video guide.
Accessing Email Templates
In order to access the template emails, go to Channels, then Emails.
Once there, select one of your template emails you’ve previously created. In the guide Creating an Email from a Template, we selected the Generic Email template.
Once you click on the email template you’d like to customize, the next page will show you the information about that email. If you click Preview, you’ll see what the email looks like before we make any changes to it. Each section you see is its own block. To edit emails, click on the Blocks tab.
Blocks
You will see that all blocks that we have the following:
- A link for the display which you can toggle off and on.
- A trash can to remove the block. Please note that once deleted, you cannot recover the block.
- An edit button, to edit the individual block
Let’s start off with the basic header block.
Now that you’re on the “Edit” screen, you can adjust the custom block name and custom block description that will overwrite the information that you saw on the previous page. We recommend that you name your blocks and add a description so that you can know what each contains without having to click into them! This is for internal use only. Anything you’d like to change about this block, you can do so here.
For this example, we will give it a name, description.
Please note: Images are pulled from the images you have uploaded to the Media Library. The links are pulled from the Custom Links page.
Media Library
Under the Components tab, click on Media Library and click the “+Add an Asset” button. On the next page, you can either drag your logo file into the dotted box or click on the box to open a window on your computer. Once your file has successfully uploaded, click Next and Save.
Now when you go back to the Basic Header block of the email you were editing, you’ll see your logo when you click the dropdown menu next to Logo Image.
Custom Links
If you would like your logo to go to a specific link, click the blue “+New Custom Link” button. This will take you to a new page where you can create a custom link that will be readily available throughout RocketLevel so that you don’t have to constantly copy and paste links.
Fill out the label and the website you’d like to link to. It’s a good idea to have a custom link for your website, so for this example, the label will be RocketLevel Website and for the Link, input your website’s URL.
Once you click Save, go back to the email block you were previously editing. Now when you click the dropdown next to Logo Link, you should see the custom link you just created.
Color Options
Going back to the block’s settings, you also have the option to change the background color to either your account’s primary color, your account’s secondary color, or a different color. If you would like to change your account’s colors, you can do so under Account Settings. Feel free to check out our Account Settings guide for a refresher. If you’d like to use a different color, select Other Color. Then, in the field below that, you can input the hex code of your desired color or use the color picker.
Shortcodes
Some blocks might have pre-filled text containing custom lead shortcodes. Here’s an example of a shortcode.
[[ lead.fieldValue('first_name')|default('there') ]]
So what this is going to do is it’s actually going to enable you to pull in the contact’s information dynamically for the person that you’re sending the email out to. The shortcode above will pull the contact’s first name to personalize the email.
Our templated emails include some shortcodes for your convenience. If you would like to learn more about shortcodes, please view our Shortcodes guide.
Moving Blocks
You can also move blocks around to your liking. The single arrows next to the block name will move blocks one space up or down. The double arrows will move a block all the way to the top or all the way to the bottom.
Editing Buttons
We have designed a block specifically for buttons - let’s go over how to update it. To access you will click the pencil icon for the button block.
You can have up to three buttons in one email. If you’d like to turn on the other 2, toggle the Button Enabled switches on.
On this page, you can edit what the button says and where the button leads once someone clicks it. If you need to add a new custom link just click on the “+New Custom Link” next to the title “Button Link”.
When you scroll down, you’ll see the options to change the appearance of a button. Once you’re happy with your changes, click Save.
Hiding and Deleting Blocks
If you wanted to delete a block but wanted to make sure you were deleting the correct one, you can hide the block instead by clicking the checkmark under the Display column. When you preview the email again, you can make sure that the correct block was hidden. If it was the one you wanted to remove, you can now confidently go back and delete the block by clicking the trash can icon on the right.
Adding Blocks
Let’s say that you have all of this information on there but you still wanted to add more. You can add another block by clicking the +Add Block button.
The next page will show a list of available blocks you can add. Once you select the one you would like, you will be directed to the block’s editing page.
When you’ve completed editing the block to your satisfaction, click the Save button. You will be redirected back to the email you were editing. However, you’ll notice that the new block you selected is the very last block by default. Click the arrow key to the left of the block’s name to move it up to where you would like it to be.
Once you’ve completed editing the email, click the Preview button to make sure the email is to your liking! You can always go back and edit the email whenever you’d like.
